On June 11 and 12, 2022 the DDCC Inc. held an Ontario Women Anglers Northwestern Ontario Fishing Weekend - Check out the details and photo gallery here.
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) is proud to deliver a fun, affordable, one-of-a-kind program geared toward women who are interested in fishing and hunting but do not know how to get started.
This weekend-long excursion is exclusively for women.
The Dryden District Conservation Club Inc. and the Dryden Rifle and Pistol Club have joined together to bring a WOW (Women’s Outdoor Weekend) to Dryden. It is a group of people willing to teach outdoor safety to women in the community and empower them to do more in a safe and fun environment. We have an opportunity to copy a program that is successful in Southern Ontario and Sioux Lookout. Activities are only limited by our imagination, time and volunteers to oversee the venues. Such things as archery, ATVing, gun handling, shooting, fishing, outdoor survival skills and techniques are just some of the activities that take place.
WOW Coordinator: Loretta Bilous
We have a busy three days planned with a lot of activities, lots of laughs, great food and good friends. Both days (Saturday & Sunday) will start at the Dryden District Conservation Club House. Maps and directions will be provided. While some of the events take place at the range, others will require us to drive to other venues. You are responsible to get yourself and or your group from one activity to the next. If you’re signing up with a group of friends we suggest carpooling for the weekend.
Here you will learn the basics of operating an ATV including: the safe driving, negotiating obstacles and handling of an ATV off road on our course. Before the end you will hit the trail on one of our ATV’s to test your skills. You are welcome to bring your own.
After some instructions on safety and technique, you will be able to use several different kinds of bows & arrows. Make use of our 3D archery range and practice your skills in a mock up real-world hunting situation.
We’re hitting the water. Casting, baiting your hook, netting, and when the fish are in, use of a measuring board, clean kill and filleting. For this event, please make sure your fishing license is on your person or readily available.
We will meet at the Rifle and Pistol Club on Barclay Hall Road and after some instruction on safety and technique; you will get a chance to do some shooting. You will have the opportunity to try shooting a variety of firearms from .22 caliber rifles and pistols aiming at stationary targets and drop targets. We may even have a fun surprise in store for you.
Trap will take place at the DDCC clubhouse and all equipment will be provided. If you want to bring your own shotgun you are welcome to bring and practice with it.
